So you're casting for a photoshoot or scouting talent for a runway show with little to no budget.
We chatted to creative directors, brands and casting directors (including the fabulous Emma Fleming (Alabama Blonde)) about how to book models for free.
1. 'TFP'
They give you their time for photos in return. That’s basically it! For models wanting to grow their portfolios, they’re often willing to give up half a day or more to do so.
2. Street CastingOur friend Alabama Blonde loves to Street Cast. Yes, it can be a little daunting. It also, however, can be fantastic. Spend a day venturing to a variety of spaces and approach those that stand out to you. What's the worst that can happen? If they say no, you've probably made their day by considering them model potential!
3. StarNow
Hit up StarNow and post a job. This again may draw in models willing to take part in TFP work, or alternatively someone simply interested in the project. Make your shoot sound fun (and genuinely make it fun), that way people will want to take part purely for the enjoyable time on set.
4. 1 for 1
Can you offer them something else in return? For example, if you are a makeup artist, can you offer them a free application for a future event? Or if you're casting for a beauty therapy company, can they offer the model/s a voucher for services? Think outside the box, or pull in a few favours from friends and see if you can offer any compensations.
5. Friends
Lastly, if all else fails, this is what friends are for. Pick out a few friends and make it a fun day out. Friends can generally be more relaxed and willing to give up their time to hang out with their bestie.
